Aerospace: Apex Lowers Your Costs
Bombardier contracts interior completions for Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft to Zodiac Aerospace. Zodiac requires large back lit mirror frames for these aircraft. This mirror frame has an important aesthetic effect upon entering the aircraft for the first time and must leave a lasting impression.
Problem
The original design had three separate sheet metal parts assembled together. The three sheet metal components were very complex and difficult to produce without a high yield rate. The finished parts also required assembly to create the final mirror frame.
Solution
Apex proposed producing this component as one piece, avoiding all the administration and assembly expenses.
Results
Upon drawing approval Apex was able to produce the Mirror Frame with an approximate 50% saving in the price. The new process was so reliable that the yield rate was no longer an issue, which contributed to further savings.
